Summary

Wake has an Elemental system that allows the player to mix certain elements and properties to produce various effects. Compatible elements/properties are as follows:

Elements

  • Fire

  • Water

  • Electricity

Properties

  • Metal

  • Flammable

  • Electronic Device

  • Combustible

The listed elements and properties interactions are laid out in the chart below:

Colored circles are elements and grey slots are properties. Intersections contain the reaction to the combination.

Fire is doused by throwing a water bottle against the nearby wall.

Water

Water can be produced by breaking a vessel that contains water against a wall or ground. Once the vessel breaks water will spill out and form puddles on the ground. If any of the puddles interact with:

  • an electronic device a shockwave will be produced

  • an electric shockwave an additional shockwave will be produced

  • fire the fire will be doused

The player throws a water bottle at an enemy to create a puddle at their feet. Afterwards they throw an electronic device at the puddle to shock the enemy and leave them vulnerable to attack.

Electricity spreads from the primary shockwave to nearby metal objects.

Electricity

Electricity is produced by water and electronics coming into contact with one another. When this happens a shockwave expands outward until it reaches a certain radius. This repeats until the interaction ceases. Anyone that touches a shockwave will be shocked, causing them to freeze for a few seconds leaving them vulnerable to attacks. Therefore it’s useful for the player to try to create shockwaves near enemies prior to combat encounters for a preemptive strike or during a battle if possible.

Electricity can propagate across metal objects creating a chain of smaller shockwaves. This can be used to electrocute enemies that are outside the shockwave radius of an electronic device.

The player shoots a gasoline canister and the resulting gasoline puddle to create a fire that spreads to all adjacent cubicles. The player then throws a grenade which causes the fire to spread to the remaining cubicles.

Gasoline is shot to spark a fire near an enemy and inflict burn.

Fire

Fire can be created by exposing gasoline to existing fire, electricity or gunfire. Gasoline can be produced by breaking a vessel containing gasoline against a surface.

Fire will spread to any nearby flammable object causing it to catch fire. A burning object will carry a flame until it burns away in 5 to 30 seconds.

If the player or an enemy is exposed to flame they will be inflicted with a burn effect. This is a damage over time (DOT) status that inflicts 10% of total health every 9 seconds for 45 seconds (5 instances, totaling half of health). Compared to poison, burn is a much more immediate concern dealing potentially less damage but over a much shorter duration.
